Check out the review of Tyler’s new restaurant in the Seattle Times today! It is quite good.

Wow, quite the complement: “Dare say, it’s as good as (perhaps better than) a similar dish you might find at Crush, Tilth or Veil — much-heralded restaurants whose big-gun chefs have far more familiar names.”

I am so excited that they received such a great review. I wouldn’t say she said anything bad about the restaurant. Hopefully it will help get Tyler’s name out some more, even though I am not sure he needs much help in that arena.

The review seemed positive and seemed to mirror my own experience at Opal. It’s been a long time since I read a restaurant review that wasn’t taped to the window of the tavern I was thinking of visiting for lunch so I was a little surprised at the mixture of very casual language (what does “kicky” mean?) with some indication of technical knowledge. Here in Pullman, Washington where I live, the reviews usually mention the size of the puddle of grease soaking into the paper when the hamburger basket arrives. The review of Opal seemed a little more thorough.

I agree with the reviewer that the food at Opal was 1) excellent, 2) cleverly prepared, 3) somewhere between expenseive and very expensive, and 4) worth the price. I doubt that I would wander over to Opal on a Friday night in one of those where-have-we-not-been-to-lately moods, but it would be at the top of my list of places to go on special occasions.

So for those of you who haven’t been there, if you have a birthday, a wedding anniversary, or the day you switched from cable TV to sattelite that you want to celebrate, now you know where to go.

HEY!
I heard about this from Jan Coleman. I hope they have stopped in.
WE still talk about the experience. It was wonderful. I hope to be back for a celebration!
